A TEAM of young bakers from Gurnard Primary School has made it to the final of the McDougalls Young Baking Team competition.

Lola Squires, Scarlett Green and Logan Meek will recreate their Isle of Wight pizza at the final in Birmingham next month.

Last year, research showed that nearly 20 per cent of young children believe fish fingers are made from chicken and 25 per cent of eight to eleven year olds think cheese comes from a plant.

McDougalls are trying to teach pupils where different foods originate from.

School caterers were asked to recruit an enthusiastic team of up to three children between seven and eleven years old.

The teams were tasked with creating one recipe using McDougalls Flour and at least one local ingredient.

Sarah Robb, channel marketing manager at Premier Foods, said: "Since the start of the year, we have been overwhelmed by the number of recipes which have rolled in and we have thoroughly enjoyed the tricky task of sifting through to identify our potential winners.

"We're now in the fourth year of the competition and the entries continue to get bigger and better."
