ISLE of Wight Pride launched the UKPRIDE Arts Festival in style last Friday with a private viewing of a new Pride Gallery at Quay Arts.

Guests were treated to a performance by non-binary musician, This, May, Them, who will also perform at Pride on July 21.

The galleries display a diverse range of artwork from Island artists and the Winter Pride exhibition.

Jo Kori, arts lead for IW Pride, said: "The cafe gallery is displaying mood boards by Ellie Moore and a visual timeline showing the two years since IW Pride started, the downstairs seminar is hosting the finalists and winner of the fantastic touring Winter Pride exhibition 'Beyond the Binaries' and the Clayden Gallery displays a diverse range of artworks from Island LGBT+ artists curated by Karl Stedman.

"We are so excited that this has come to the heart of the Island and are so thankful to everyone who has contributed, especially Newport Parish Council whose funding has helped us make this festival a reality."

Sam Wingate, the winner from the Winter Pride exhibition, travelled down to the Island for the launch event on Friday and was blown away by the high calibre of art on show.

Karl Stedman said: "When I was asked to get involved with Pride I felt that as an artist, the best way for me to participate was to organise an exhibition to celebrate the work of professional artists on the Island who identify as LGBTQ."

The Pride Arts Festival will run at Quay Arts until July 24 and entry is free.

Other events include Priscilla Queen of the Desert at Medina Theatre and an LGBT photography project called See Me at East Cowes.
