COWES RNLI lifeboat was launched in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) to a crippled motor-cruiser in danger of drifting into a shipping lane.

The night time drama saw the motor-cruiser, that had four people on board, towed to safety by Cowes lifeboat.

The 12 metre motorboat had lost power off Egypt Light and its anchor was dragging in the flood tide.

Launching at 1.38am, the lifeboat was quickly on the scene and towed the craft, whose home port was Portsmouth, to a fuel berth in the River Medina.

The lifeboat returned to station at 2.45am.
