DASH and Splash, a 5km run from Shanklin Pier to Yaverland car park, is returning for its fourth year to raise money for young people's charity Challenge and Adventure.

This year’s event is being held on Sunday, July 8, at 1.15pm, when the tide is at its lowest.

The event is a 5km dash (running or walking) along the beach dashing over and around the groynes and occasionally splashing in the sea.

Last year, almost 200 people took part. The event is open to people of all ages, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult participant.

The groynes are all marshalled by volunteers from Shanklin and Sandown Rotary Clubs, Ryde Lions, Shanklin Rowing Club, Yaverland Sailing and Boat Club, Sandown and Shanklin Rugby Club, and Sandown Sea Scouts.

Tesco Ryde are providing bottled water and bananas at the finish.

All runners will get a medal and winners in all categories will get a winners T-shirt.

The event was started by Australian Challenge and Adventure volunteer, Frederick Fisher, who works tirelessly throughout the year to make this happen.

Entry is £10 per adult and £5 per child. You can register online at www.dashandsplash.org.uk.
