A NEW Isle of Wight leisure club, for anyone with a need, has opened in Oakfield, Ryde.

The facility is being provided by John's Club, for anyone who has learning disabilities, mental health problems, or needs support and does not feel comfortable in a public gym.

John's Leisure Club provides gym equipment but also nature walks, basketball, football, pool, darts, table tennis and arts and crafts — among other leisure and sport activities.

John Phillips, who runs the club, said: "We are trying to help people by providing facilities catered to the individual person, to help improve their mental health, get fitter and lose weight.

"It is open to anyone, so just drop in and see us to discuss your needs."

It is somewhere people can spend a whole day for £30, a half day for £15, or an hour for £6.

The club is based at Oakfield Football Club on Slade Road and is open from 10am to 4pm every day except Sundays.
