THE hot weather is starting to take its toll on Isle of Wight farmers who have resorted to emergency measures to save failing crops.

Apse Manor Road, Shanklin, has been closed today (Monday), from the junction with Ventnor Road for a distance of 480 metres, while urgent irrigation works are carried out.

According to a road closure notice, issued by the Isle of Wight Council and Island Roads, the emergency works are to provide irrigation to a failing crop.

A diversion will be in place affecting Ventnor Road, Canteen Road and Whiteley Bank for a maximum of five days.
