A PLANNING application for an employment park near Sandown Airport could create 400 jobs, if approved by the Isle of Wight Council.

An outline planning application has been submitted on behalf of Island Airport LLP, seeking permission for an employment park.

The park would be split into three sections — a commercial area, an industrial section and a leisure area, described in the application as ‘ideal for shopping’.

The plan includes more than 200 public parking spaces, 20 spaces for the employment section and ten spaces for the leisure area.

It is estimated the full development will take seven to ten years to complete.

If the application is approved, a ‘strong management company’ will be formed to take control and maintain the park’s common areas, to be funded by a service charge.

The employment park hopes to capitalise on the proposed Isle of Wight aviation museum and form a museum cluster.

It proposes a link with Brading Roman Villa and Dinosaur Isle, providing group ticketing and cross-promotion.

The application states: “We commend the proposals as a key part of the regeneration of the Bay Area.”

The plans are open for comments until August 10. They can be viewed online.
