A LARGE scale multi-agency search for an unconscious person on a Freshwater cycle track took place last night (Thursday).

Emergency crews were called out following an emergency medical call for a patient on the cycle track between Afton Road and Freshwater Causeway just before 11pm.

Freshwater co-responder and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were initially called out, followed by Freshwater Fire crew for lighting the area and searching with thermal imaging cameras.

The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team, Ventnor Coastguard and the Coastguard helicopter also assisted with a ground and aerial search.

Isle of Wight Police attended to make the scene safe.

All agencies were stood down at around 1.25am. No one was found.

A spokesperson for Freshwater Fire Station said: “This is a fabulous example of our emergency services working together in very dark, difficult conditions.”

A spokesperson for The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Despite saturating the area with various assets at our disposal, nobody was located."
