INCLEMENT weather is not enough to stop the hardy Godshill Massive.

They carried on with a 5k race from the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary to the Worsley Obelisk despite the rest of the attraction's Day at the Races event being cancelled due to the weather conditions.

Nearly 100 runners turned up in the rain to run up the short but steep course.

Over stiles, through streams and crossing bridges, they finally started the upward journey to the Worsley Obelisk on Stenbury Down.

Originally erected in 1774, the memorial is a favourite haunt of the running community, although normally taking an easier path.

Race organiser Michael Coultrup secured passage through private land to form a more direct and steeper climb up to the monument.

Winner was Will Trowell, and in the ladies race, Hayley Baxter reigned supreme, maintaining her continued run of success.

Contentiously Harry Rann was the first IW Road Runner back to the IW Donkey Sanctuary after taking the wrong route. Stu Backhouse was next, having taken the correct route.

Dallas Price had the first place dog, Tilly.

Jodie Wilmott was second female home along with 2nd dog Schnu.

Everyone returned to the attraction for a well-earned cup of tea and a piece of homemade cake — and the presentation of the bespoke 'golden carrot' trophies.

The event raised £711, which should keep the donkeys in carrots for a while.
