A CHARITY event with a difference raised £1,690 — thanks to burlesque chair dancing.

The Isle of Wight's first Burlesquethon was held in aid of two charities, Daisy Chains IW and Hope4Mae.

Participants dressed as superheroes and danced burlesque for an incredible six hours last Sunday, at Gurnard Pines.

There was also a raffle to win ten Thai massages, donated by Prahna Thai Massage.

Sarah Spillane, burlesque instructor, organised the event, which was attended by around 25 women.

She runs the burlesque fitness classes in Newport and Ryde, and instructor Vicky Fisher runs classes in Shanklin and Ventnor.

Further information on classes can be found at www.burlesquechairdance.co.uk or on the Facebook page Burlesque Chair Dance Isle of Wight.

Sarah said: "We have ladies aged from 16 to 72 that attend each week and we are open to all levels of fitness and abilities.

"Our mission statement is to inspire women to get fit, lose weight, build confidence and have fun."
