THIEVES targeted a children's charity nursery and stole garden tools.

Two outbuildings at West Wight Nursery, at the St Saviour's Primary School site in Totland, were raided on Thursday (September 6) night.

The locks were cut off with angle grinders.

Nursery manager Kim Tyrell said: "The thieves were only looking for equipment they can sell on.

"They cut off our shed locks and stole all our strimmers, hedge cutters, drills and tools which are so expensive to replace as a charity.

"Police have been and taken away the locks for fingerprinting.

"This is devastating for us. We don't have the funds to replace this equipment, it's just not fair.

"The contents of the toy shed were left untouched, so it's obvious the thieves weren't interested in them."

An Isle of Wight police spokesperson said: “West Wight Nursery has been broken into. Two out buildings were affected, one had toys inside and nothing was taken, the other contained tools which were taken.”
