"USUALLY the parents are in tears more than the children."

The early years leader of Oakfield Primary School in Ryde, Rebecca Howlett, came up with an idea to help soften the separation process on the first day of school — for the mums and dads.

The daunting day was eased a little with a thoughtful gift inside an organza bag.

A comforting poem, a tissue to dry the eyes, and a teabag and biscuit for a mid-morning relax, was given to the parents.

Rebecca said: "It was the first time we have done it, and the parents thought it was really lovely."
