TWO of the Isle of Wight's top sides are in cup action on Saturday.

East Vics have a tough, but winnable game away at Totton & Eling in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase.

Club secretary, Daz Dyer, said: "We know a bit about Totton & Eling being in the same league and we beat them earlier this season, 2-1 at home, with not a lot between us.

"But if we continue our recent league form, I feel confident we can get a result there.

"Winning the match will be important for a small club like ours. It would cover our travel expenses — which can be astronomical — for a few weeks.

"It's all to play for."

The Beatrice Avenue club will be missing a key player for the game, striker Elias Ahmed, who was suspended for three games following his straight red card at Newport last month.

However, the Vics have been strengthened by the new signing of defender Caleb Charlesworth from Sydenhams Wessex Division 1 rivals, Newport.

In the first round of the Sydenhams League Cup, Newport will face Whitchurch United at St George's Park.

New Cowes Sports boss, Vic Sanders, takes charge of his first match for the Yachtsmen in their Sydenhams Wessex Premier League encounter with Portchester — a point and a place below the Islanders.

A Cowes win could propel them into the top three by tea-time on Saturday and set them up nicely for their Hampshire Senior Cup second round tie at Alresford Town on Tuesday.

At the top of Division 1 of the Harwoods IW Saturday League, Whitecroft & Barton Sports face Cowes Sports Reserves, with the match of the day between second-placed Brading Town and early pace-setters, Pan Sports.
