A CHARITY powder run will be a day many people won't forget — but none more so than bride Michelle Walton.

She got married the day before, and turned up at Porchfield Cricket Club's charity event for Age UK IW — to wreck her dress.

The craze to get some memorable photos and enjoy 'trashing' your bridal gown appealed to Michelle, who had only paid £15 for it in a charity shop anyway.

She said: "My husband John and I married at the IW Registry Office the day before, had lunchtime drinks and a buffet at the Man in the Moon pub in Newport, followed by a party at home with the family, getting a takeaway curry.

"We were keen to prove a fabulous wedding doesn't have to break the bank. To prolong the wedding celebrations, we used the event to 'wreck the dress' as I won't be needing it again.

"The Age UK IW event was perfect, as we have a combined age of 100. We now hope to repeat the event to celebrate our anniversaries.

"I work in the police and through partner agency work, I see the amazing work Age UK IW does, so I was so happy to support it."

Age UK is Porchfield Cricket Club's charity of the year.

The powder run was the first event but raised in excess of £2,000.

Elisha Leachman, fundraising manager at Age UK IW, said: "It was our first event but was so popular and fun to do that we have already decided to make it an annual event at the club.

"The comments we received were all so positive. Our sponsors were amazing too; Red Squirrel Property Shop, Wight Home Care, Cottages.com, We Care Recruitment, Brewers Decorators, Wheelers Solicitors and NFU Mutual."
