FRESHWATER firefighters tackled a car fire last night (Thursday).

An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue spokesperson said calls from the public were received, reporting the fire in a field off Brook Road, Chessell.

Freshwater firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 10am to extinguish the fire.

There were no casualties, or anything to suggest there had been a traffic accident.

The spokesperson said it was possible the car had been abandoned.

Police also attended.
