IT WAS a real community effort to get a defibrillator installed at The Fleming Arms, Binstead.

Help and donations came flooding in, with local people raising money, and electricians giving up time to install it.

Shops, pubs and hairdressers were among lsle of Wight businesses who chipped in, plus Fairlee Station in Newport, Binstead Post Office, and Maher Ross Estate Agents.

The Fleming Arms held quizzes and raffles and encouraged people to donate to the cause.

It was a cause that had been supported by previous landlady Michelle as well as newcomers Lucy and Craig, who took over a few weeks ago.

For every minute that passes without defibrillation and CPR, the chances of survival for someone in cardiac arrest decrease about ten per cent.
