A MAIN road in Cowes has been closed this morning (Monday).

A spokesperson from Island Roads said Victoria Road had been closed due a burst water main and that Southern Water has been informed.

Southern Vectis has reported that its number one route will divert via Bellevue Road, Upper Moorgreen Road and Brooklands Road in both directions and Cowes Fire Station stop will not be served.

They have warned delays may occur as a result.

UPDATE: A spokesperson from Southern Water said the job was a pre-planned repair of a leak rather than an emergency burst.

It will be completed by 1pm today and all customers affected have been warned.

The spokesperon said: “We work hard to repair leaks quickly and safely and aim to notify our customers in advance of repair work wherever possible. We would like to thank people for their patience while we carry out this essential work.”
