THE ISLAND joined in the world's biggest coffee morning in aid of Macmillan last Friday.
Macmillan ask people all over the UK to host their own coffee morning simultaneously to raise money for people fighting cancer.
Island schools, businesses, families and friends joined together to have a cuppa and a cake for the cause.
Beryl Read, whose husband Paul has just finished his treatment in Southampton, invited people to her home at Greenacres Farm.
She said: "It was a fantastic day and Paul was so thrilled to see all his friends. It's the fourth time I've held a coffee morning and each year people have been more generous."
Beryl said Macmillan transformed their experience when Paul was receiving treatment. "They're just amazing," she said. "They're so so kind."
More than 70 people joined Beryl at the farm and the group raised £1,200 for Macmillan.
The Y6 students at St Blasius Primary School, Shanklin, organised their own coffee morning with donated cakes from parents, staff and students.
The group raised £172.20 on the day from the morning and a small cake sale after school and Mrs Fox, teaching assistant for Y6, said: "They all showed enthusiasm and politeness when chatting with the guests."
Estate agents Hose Rhodes Dickson, Newport, raised a massive £465.61 for the cause with their cake sales and raffle. A spokesperson said it was their most successful morning to date.

What is your response? My mum had been battling a 3 year battle with cancer and at the time of this years coffee morning she was having a life changing operation That was 10 hour long and resulted in a 3 week stay at a hospital 60 miles away from family and friends. I decided to host a coffee morning Because Macmillan have been amazing and been by my mums side since she almost lost he life the first time around 3 years ago. She returned home a week earlier than expected on the 2 October ( not only by her own strength but thanks to the medical team around her) to surprise her son on his birthday and is on the mend thanks to the amazing help by not only Macmillan but friends and family. We hosted our coffee morning in the evening and had it in Daves garden/entertainment room. Around 50 people showed to support us and combined with the amount we had raised online (for those to donate who couldn’t make it to the coffee morning) and the amount at the coffee morning we raised an amazing £360.
