AN ICE rink is coming to town for Ventnor's annual Christmas event, Ventnorville.

A 12m by 12m indoor synthetic ice rink will be coming to the auditorium of Ventnor Winter Gardens for the duration of the three-day event, with skates in all sizes for children and adults, and some skating aids for those who are unsure on the ice.

Ventnorville is celebrating its 5th birthday this year by adding an extra day and some new events.

This year there will be a Ventnor Bay-ke Off, offering all keen Island bakers an opportunity to enter their best Christmas bakes. Visitors will be able to vote for their favourite creations, and judges will award prizes for the most exciting showstoppers, in various categories. There will also be a draw to win some of the entries.

Ventnorville, based on the town where The Grinch by Dr Seuss lives, will take place over the weekend of November 30 to December 2, with attractions and entertainment for all.

It encompasses a winter carnival lantern parade, carol singing in Ventnor Park, an arts and crafts market and the country market, dog fancy dress, a Santa Dash on the beach plus a Santa’s Grotto and visits by The Grinch.

The festive market, featuring traditional wooden chalets, music, mulled wine, roast chestnuts and children’s rides will be expanded this year.

Local volunteers are already busy building extra chalets, which will be decorated with festive garlands and lighting for a truly winter wonderland atmosphere.
