A 63-YEAR-OLD woman was taken to hospital with head and back injuries and this afternoon (Wednesday) after falling at Brook beach.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service called the UK Coastguard shortly after 2.30pm, as the terrain made it difficult for paramedics to reach her.

Co-responders from Freshwater Fire Station, together with the Needles and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams, were called to the scene.

They placed the injured woman on a stretcher and carried her to a waiting ambulance.

The Friends of Freshwater Fire Station shared these pictures of the rescue on Facebook.
