MISTAKENLY believing a woman had launched a drinks tray at her boyfriend, a Ryde woman followed her victim to a bar toilet and shoved her — causing her to fall and fracture her jaw.

Rosalynde Pitcher, 24, of Corbett Road, admitted one offence of causing grievous bodily harm when she appeared for sentence at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday (October 12).

The court heard police were called to Kasbah, in Ryde, over the bank holiday weekend on August 26 last year.

Pitcher's victim was there, clearly tearful and upset, saying she had been attacked, said Tim Compton, prosecuting.

She told police there had been some teasing of a 'moderately unpleasant nature' and she had gone to the toilets when she was shoved and fell down. She said after the incident she could taste blood.

Pitcher, who was arrested and interviewed by police, said that there had been some 'banter' about eyebrows which had made her victim angry. A drinks tray was launched in her direction, hitting her boyfriend.

She claimed she had gone to the toilet and her victim had tried to punch her, although CCTV footage clearly showed Pitcher walking to the toilet 'with purpose' and pushing someone, added Mr Compton.

For Pitcher, Russell Pyne said she had not appreciated her actions would have such serious consequences.

Although she thought the tray had been thrown by her victim, CCTV footage proved otherwise.

He said Pitcher had experienced a troubled childhood and had been the victim of a serious assault three years ago when she had been shot in the head.

However, she had now developed a love of horses and was engaged to be married.

Pitcher was jailed for nine months, suspended for 18 months, and was told to pay the costs of her victim's travel to hospital in Portsmouth of £200.

She was also told to pay her £1,000 compensation and costs of £600.
