MORE flu vaccines are on the way after a shortage was reported.

The Isle of Wight is running out of the specific flu jab for the over 65s — but it is anticipated that new supplies will ensure that everyone who wants to be, will be vaccinated before the end of the year.

One woman reported to the County Press that Carisbrooke Health Centre had run out and she was advised to wait for a new batch.

An NHS England spokesperson confirmed: "Practices will be getting additional deliveries during October and November. We wouldn't know the specifics on delivery dates for individual practices but this is a phased delivery for the over 65s vaccine only.

"GPs and pharmacists were given more than two months to order the vaccine and there is more than enough to meet expected demand and what's more, older people will be better protected this year than ever before as they will be offered the most effective jab available anywhere in the world.

"We expect pharmacists and GPs to get everyone vaccinated before the end of the year when flu usually hits."
