A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was left with life threatening injuries in Shanklin.
The victim was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital and treated for puncture wounds to his chest on Saturday night, after police were called to the Spring Gardens junction with St Paul's Avenue by the ambulance service.
Isle of Wight Police said a 22-year-old man from Shanklin had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been released and remains under investigation.
A 43-year-old man from Shanklin was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but has since been released, with no further action taken against him.
An Isle of Wight Police spokesperson said: "We were called shortly before 8pm on Saturday, July 8 by our colleagues from the ambulance service, after a member of the public reported a man was seriously injured at the Spring Gardens junction with St Paul's Avenue in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. 
"The man was subsequently treated for a puncture wound to his chest and has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, where his condition is described as life threatening, but stable. 
"Officers are now carrying out enquiries in the area to establish how the man was injured."
