UPDATED 11.37

DELAYS in vehicles being able to board the Southampton to East Cowes car ferry were reported by Red Funnel this morning (Tuesday).
The car ferry to the Isle of Wight could be delayed by two hours following a breakdown with the Linkspan ramp at the company's Southampton terminal.
Red Funnel said it is offering foot passengers to the Island a free upgrade to use the Red Jet service to Cowes.
*Red Funnel said the fault with the linkspan was discovered when the 7.15am sailing from East Cowes arrived at Southampton, which resulted in passengers and vehicles having to remain aboard the ship.
To ensure passengers continued on their way, the Red Osprey docked at Berth 25 and to allow foot passengers and vehicles on the lower car deck to disembark.
Those stuck on the upper car deck were returned to East Cowes.
At 10.45am, Red Funnel stated there would be delays of up to four hours for those travelling from the Island, and up to two hours for those travelling from Southampton.
“Due to a hydraulic problem with the high-rise linkspan at Terminal 1 in Southampton, we couldn’t get the upper deck vehicles off the vessel, which unfortunately had to be returned to East Cowes,” said a spokesman for the ferry operator.
“Red Funnel is operating its Southampton to East Cowes service today from Berth 25, in Southampton’s Eastern Docks, which can be accessed via Dock Gate 4.
“A revised timetable is in operation and delays are anticipated. Red Funnel apologises to customers for the delays and inconvenience caused.”
Red Funnel has issued the following advice to customers travelling today:
• Foot passengers are advised to travel on the Southampton to Cowes hi-speed Red Jet service, which is unaffected. Tickets for travel via East Cowes will be accepted.
• Vehicles (single/day returns) — customers may want to consider postponing or cancelling their journey today. A full refund will be issued.
• Vehicles (longer stay visits) — customers should check-in as normal at Terminal 1 in Southampton for directions to Berth 25.
