March 27, 2001 9:47: ORPINGTON'S Newstead Wood School for Girls has been rated as "excellent" by Government inspectors.
The Department for Education and Employment awarded the Avebury Road School the prize following its improvement in standards.
Education Minister Estelle Morris MP congratulated the school on its success saying a £21,000 award was intended "to celebrate and reward the hard work and dedication of teaching and support staff".
