A YACHT has been towed to safety following a fire scare.
HM Coastguard paged Cowes RNLI at 7.55pm for an immediate launch after a 35ft motor boat reported it was on fire.
The two people on board said they were abandoning ship on a dinghy attached to the vessel.
On arrival, a lifeboat crew member found that wires on the vessel had overheated due to a lack of cooling water going through the engine.
The boat had run aground earlier, blocking the inlet with sand and mud.
The yacht has now been towed to East Cowes Marina.
