RAINBOW flags at the ready — the first Isle of Wight Pride Parade takes place in just a few weeks.
Organisers have now released details of how Islanders can get involved in the event, which will be held in Ryde on Saturday, July 15.
The parade itself will start at 11am at Ryde School, and weave its way down West Street, across Lind Street and down Union Street, then along the Esplanade to Eastern Gardens.
It will finish at the main arena on the beach, where there will be live music and entertainment throughout the day.
A large number of groups are already registered to take part in the parade, and workshops have been held to create fantastic art pieces and elaborate costumes.
The New Carnival Club, which organises the Island's Mardi Gras celebrations, is running free flag making workshops at the Coaching House, Ryde, at 6pm every Wednesday evening until July 5. For details, call 716095.
Several national groups, including transgender groups, Outdoor Lads, UKBlackPride and Amnesty International, are set to take part.
Everybody is welcome to come and be a part of this historic event for the Island.
Organisers said: “The parade has become a popular vehicle for showcasing LGBT pride. An unabashed celebration, the parade is a living, breathing manifestation of the out-and-proud mantra, putting the LGBT community on full display.
“However, its history comes from less celebratory roots, tied more to political activism and protests. Born out of necessity, it was a reaction to commemorate one of the most important events in gay rights history.”

Parade organiser Zoe Thompson said: “The whole day allows us to remember those who continue to fight for equality and support those within LGBT. Locally this is a significant time for the Island, and will truly show that Love Wins.

“To have people of all ages, from all backgrounds, parade, march sing and dance their way through the town will be the perfect start to what will be a fantastic day. Anyone can apply to join in through the website, or simply be there to watch and cheer everyone on.”
