May 11, 2001 10:59: As welcome as a warm summer breeze comes the first of The Mick Jagger Centre's new live showcase nights.

The monthly events are set to blast away the stale air left by too many unoriginal tributes clogging the music scene by featuring the cream of bands, DJs, artists and comedians from south east London and north Kent. Headlining the inaugural session is six-piece ska/punk band Boomer (left), then there's teenage ska outfit My Dad Is Big and DJ Kaned.

Be there from the start at the MJC, Shepherds Lane, Dartford, on Friday, May 18, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £3 in advance or £4 on the door. Call 01322 291101.
