&am p;lt;b>A SPECIAL prayer service took place on the Isle of Wight last night (Tuesday) in the wake of the Manchester terrorist attack.
People from across the Island came together at St Mary's Church, Carisbrooke, in an emotional display of support for the victims of Monday's attack.
As similar services took place across the country, Islanders prayed for the people involved in the incident, for the lives that were lost and for the children who were still missing.
Rev Marcus Bagg said: “When we get disasters like this, there is a feeling in the community of wanting to help.
“On the Island, we can't give immediate practical support, but we can give prayer and we can stand alongside the people affected.
“That is what people on the Island wanted — to show that we care.
“It was a very solemn service, but there was an undercurrent of expectation and hope.
“At the service were people who grew up in the Manchester area, so obviously for them it was very personal.
“There was a strong feeling of support and sympathy for the people involved.
“It was opportunity for us to show that we as an Island are coming together.”
More than 100 candles were lit during the service.
