A HOSPITAL radio station made its final broadcast after entertaining patients for two decades.

Bromley Network Radio, which served Bromley Hospital, Cromwell Road, closed at 9pm on Sunday.

The station was terminated because of the imminent closure of the Hospital, which is scheduled for the end of March.

The station was launched in December 1982 and closed after a special 61-hour broadcast.

The last record played was Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel.

DJ Bob Pring said: "It is very sad to be closing after all this time but hopefully we entertained a lot of patients over the years."

The Friends of Bromley

Hospital (FBH), a group which has helped raise funds for the institution, is also winding up.

The FBH has been in existence since 1948 and has run a shop at the hospital since 1991.

Its shop was staffed by volunteers from the group and its profits were pumped back into the hospital's funds.

Chairman of the group Maisie Holdom said: "We would like to thank everyone for their support during the past 55 years.

"It is sad to be disbanding after all this time but, with no hospital, there is no group."
