ISLAND MP Bob Seely paid a visit to the Island Riding Centre where a family connection is among a number of new holiday units named after famous horses.
The accommodation boasts names such as Pegasus, Shergar and Sefton but the Island’s very own Warrior is also remembered too.
Warrior the war horse known as ‘the horse the Germans couldn’t kill’ was owned by General Jack Seely, Bob’s great, great uncle and is commemorated with a statue at Carisbrooke Castle.
Like his current descendant, Jack Seely was MP for the Isle of Wight at the turn of the century and sat in government alongside his great friend Winston Churchill.
Together with Warrior they fought in many battles on the Western front in France including Passchendaele exactly 100 years ago.
Louise Buckner, of Island Riding Centre, Newport, hoped to encourage Mr Seely back into the saddle in the future.
Mr Seely said: "It was great to see one of the units named after such a famous Island horse.
"It’s just the sort of investment in our tourism and leisure industry that the Island needs."
