CONTROVERSIAL plans for the construction of an additional boarding house at Ryde School have been recommended for conditional approval by the Isle of Wight Council.
The plans include accommodation for 68 pupils and staff alongside new netball courts, landscaping, and remodeling of existing access routes from Spencer Road.
Eleven objections were formerly noted by Ryde Town Council, including harmful impact on a conservation area, loss of privacy for neighbouring properties, and noise impact.
In total, the Isle of Wight Council has received 53 objections from Island residents.
Objections include the excessive size and scale of the building, that it would impact Ryde’s land and seascape, and affect wildlife such as bats and red squirrels.
The plans will go before the Isle of Wight Council's planning committee on Tuesday, August 1.
