Rugby: Success for Island clubs

Sunday, September 25, 2016 - 21:26

SANDOWN and Shanklin and the IW both won yesterday (Saturday), while Ventnor gained a spirited draw.

The Hurricanes were impressive during their 25-8 victory against Romsey, largely thanks to a dominant second half performance.

The IW, who lost to Romsey in the previous week in Hampshire 1, ran out 35-5 winners against Chineham.

Scrum half Brett Evans scored a hat-trick for the IW at Wootton.

Ventnor bounced back from their opening day defeat with a hard-earned 22-22 draw against New Milton and District.

Sam Lines scored two tries for Ventnor, before they defended superbly to see out the game.

See Friday’s County Press for more on yesterday’s matches, plus club previews for next weekend’s fixtures.
