A FORMER soldier has opened an Island franchise of home-care company Bluebird Care.

Working with his wife, Denise, Alan Cotterall said they already had a team of four carers, with plans to expand the workforce.

Based at Quay Street, Newport, the business has a number of private clients and is working with the IW Council with a view to providing care for cases referred by the local authority.

Mr Cotterall served with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers for 13 years before becoming a car dealer, based in Germany, where he was stationed.

"My background is different to this but it is all about providing a service. We want to provide a good service, that is the ethos behind the company," said Mr Cotterall.

In a unique partnership with chemists Boots, all Bluebird’s IW carers have had accredited training in helping care-users with their medication.

"More and more people want to stay in their own homes and are looking for a special personal service," he said.
