ISLAND catering supplier Medina Foodservice, Newport, has expanded its business by taking over a fruit and vegetable wholesaler.
Steve and Caroline Ross planned to add to the company for some time, to offer their customers a one-stop catering shop, and decided Newport-based Manor House Produce would make the perfect acquisition.
Medina Foodservice has more than 4,000 product lines, ranging from meat and dairy to frozen food and packaging, and Mr Ross said fruit and vegetables would make a welcome addition.
"We have been trying to expand on this sector for the past year. To build up to a sizeable business would have taken us a few years, so purchasing an already established produce wholesaler seemed the only way to progress," he said.
Mr and Mrs Ross, both born on the Island, said they had always strived to keep their business as local as possible and were passionate about using Island produce.
Medina Foodservice now has almost 40 full-time staff and 19 delivery vehicles.
Nick Yates, former owner of Manor House, will work with Mr and Mrs Ross to ensure a smooth handover.
