Dual benefit for solar-powered IW homes

A D SMITH Plumbing & Heating, of Newport, is bringing solar power into island homes.

As the environmental and economic costs of fossil fuels rise, more and more people are seeking out alternative energy sources, and solar power is certainly a viable option.

Proprietor Aidan Smith thinks solar power could potentially reduce not only our carbon footprints, but also the amount of money we spend on everyday energy costs.

He says, "A solar hot water system can provide you with free hot water for 75 per cent of the year. The initial cost will be more than offset by the savings you make."

Hans Guelbert, of Wellow, who has recently had such a system installed, said, "It’s great to be helping the environment while saving money on fuel costs."
