Eco conference chooses IW venue

INTERNATIONAL interior architecture firm Artillery has held its third conference on the Island.

The firm, which has offices in Abu Dhabi, Australia and London, was started around 20 years ago by David Back.

Mr Back relocated to the Island three years ago and said it was the perfect place, not only to raise a family but to host a conference for developers in the industry.

This year’s conference, which had the theme The Butterfly Effect, kicked off with a barbecue at Mr Back’s Bonchurch home before a series of workshops at Bonchurch beach and East Dene.

"We had people talking about a variety of issues to help make them environmentally aware and the Island is a great place to do that, it helps to re-enforce the message."

Despite much of his work being located in cities, Mr Back said the Island had many advantages.

"People love the venue and you never have to worry about telling people to turn their mobile off.

"For the first 20 minutes you can see people staring at their phones and looking more and more stressed as they try to get them to work but there is no signal. After a while they get used to it and relax."
