FROM Wall Street to Shanklin — the boss of an international pharmaceutical company has chosen the Island as its main headquarters.
Dan Spacie, chief executive at Hypotech, has worked in some of the world’s most intense business environments, in the international banking industry following 12 years in the army.
But Mr Spacie said the Island was the perfect base for Hypotech, which produces unique sterilising solutions based on the human defence mechanism.
The products, Steribev and Steriex, have attracted global interest from organisations as diverse as breweries to healthcare organisations.
The company has just moved into its new headquarters at Landguard Manor, Shanklin — in the former offices of Walter Gray and Co solicitors.
"Rather than live in an expensive commuter town, I decided I would rather live somewhere like this," said Mr Spacie, who has moved with his family to Shanklin.
"It was predominantly a lifestyle choice — but we were also influenced by the idea of Eco-Island," he added.
He said the products they had developed contained no harmful irritants or chemicals, but were still strong enough to deal with dangerous bugs like MRSA, C. Diff and salmonella.
The company has already employed four Islanders and there are plans to expand the workforce to eight.
