WHEN one of the Island’s long-established independent jewellers wanted to update its image, it drafted in the help of another IW business.
Russell Ince, founder of Wax Crayon, said it had been good to work alongside a business with such a strong heritage as Hobbs Jewellers, in Ryde, founded in 1946.
But the designer said working with such a well-known and long-established business presented a challenge.
"The original logo was designed by Edward Hobbs 65 years ago. It was time to bring it up to date but we had to do it in a way that was sensitive to the heritage of the company.
"It’s been a nice project to work on, to be able to work with such a well-established Island company," said Russell, who has also worked with Michelin star chef Robert Thompson and the Garlic Farm, as well as national organisations.
Work has been done to bring the High Street shop up to date.
Rob Hobbs, who now runs the shop with the help of his father, John, said: "My grandfather, Edward, approves of all the work.
"At first we were just thinking about giving the place a lick of paint and we asked a few people what they thought.
"Russell said nice idea but also came up with some other suggestions about what we could do. We were really pleased with the work," he said.
