A SCHEME to generate green energy at homes in Chale has attracted international attention.
The Chale Community Project, one of ten across the UK to receive government funding, has involved fitting homes in Spanners Close with solar panels and green heating systems.
More than 100 homes have been fitted with photovoltaic solar panels and almost 70 are now heated by air source heat pumps, installed by green energy provider Eaga, which has been working with South Wight Housing.
Last month, the project was visited by former special adviser to the Irish government, Paddy Duffy.
Mr Duffy, who spoke to residents, said: "This is clearly a very popular programme, which is bringing genuine cost saving and environmental benefits.
"I was especially impressed by the enthusiasm of all the households I met and I am sure the example here can be repeated elsewhere."
