Harvest rain to beat ban

RAINWATER harvesting is being promoted by a Ryde company as a response to an expected summer hosepipe ban.

Travis Perkins, at Nicholson Road, Ryde, has been stocking up on products and recommended residents speak to their local tradespeople about installing low-cost solutions, including water butts.

"Not only is a water butt a great way of limiting the effects of a hosepipe ban, it is also a way of doing your bit for the environment," said environmental manager Jez Cutler.

The proposed Flood and Water Management Bill is expected to impose even tighter hosepipe restrictions during summer months, extending beyond watering plants and washing cars to cooling down family pets or filling bird baths and fountains.
