A hi-tech drilling rig, based on the Island, has been unveiled by a Ryde-based business.Core Resource Ltd’s crawler-mounted Sonic SDC450 drilling rig was on show at a demonstration held at Newclose Cricket Ground, Newport.The rig can be used for ground-source heat installations and water well drilling.One of its first projects was the drilling of bore holes for Prof Bruce Denness’s investigations into the Undercliff Drive landslip, earlier this year.The company was founded by engineers with experience working in the oilfield services industry.Reporter: rossf@iwcpmail.co.uk
