Sainsbury goes local in Cowes

Somerton Middle School pupils help in the opening of Sainsbury’s Local in Cowes.

CHILDREN from Somerton Middle School joined staff to cut the ribbon and officially open the new Sainsbury’s Local store in Cowes.

In return, manager Sean Harrison presented the children with some Active Kids equipment for the school to use in PE lessons and playtimes.

Ten new jobs have been created at the store, in addition to the 40 Somerfield staff who elected to transfer to Sainsbury’s.

Mr Harrison said: "It’s an exciting time for us here at Sainsbury’s as we open the second Local store on the Island, following on from Freshwater. The store is looking great and there’s a wide choice of products for our customers."

To encourage customers to reduce the amount of disposable plastics bags used on shopping trips, on opening day Sainsbury’s handed out free re-usable bags for shopping.
