MUM Laura Summers has brought a new baby sign language franchise to the Island.

The company, Baby Signing Mummy Method, was founded last year by Louise Lloyd, who has since won a number of business awards and the franchise has been introduced around the c ountry.

Laura, who has used baby signing with her children, Sebastian, two, and eight-month-old Leo, has become the first tutor on the Island.

Laura said: "I started using signing when I was 18 and working with a child with special needs at a pre-school.

"From there, I moved on to a high school and continued to use it in the job.

"I have always had an interest in it and started using it with my own children," said Laura.

The Baby Signing Mummy Method uses aspects taken from systems including Makaton and British sign language.

"It really helps with all aspects of communication and helps children develop their fine motor skills as well," said Laura, 26, of Broadway, Sandown.
