WHAT started as a childhood hobby has turned into a dream business for one woman, who has had plenty to celebrate just one month after opening.
Abigail’s Kitchen in Watchbell Lane, Newport, was founded Abbie Raven and on Friday it became the 1,000th businsess to receive a five-star rating for food hygiene from the IW Council.
"I have always loved baking, right from when my grandmother taught me to make jam tarts as a little girl, and it has always been my dream to turn that into a job.
"Having spent many enjoyable holidays on the Island, as a child and more recently with my own children, my husband and I fell in love with the place and felt the Island would be a wonderful place to bring up our family, so we relocated here and we are all loving it," said Mrs Raven.
The business started with Mrs Raven working from home, where she also had a five-star 'Scores on the Doors’ hygiene rating.
Initially specialising in cupcakes to order for weddings, birthday parties, business events and one-off gift boxes, she decided the time was right to open a shop.
Cllr Barry Abraham, cabinet member for environmental health, presented Mrs Ravens with her five-star rating.
"The news means over half the Island’s food premises have achieved the top rating, with many more obtaining four stars," he said.
