Training – by satellite

By County Press Reporter - Friday, July 3, 2009
CARE and support staff from Polars care home, Newport, are to receive some of their training via a satellite TV network, when the Australian-based Aged Care Channel launches in Britain next month.
The Somerset Care Group, the parent company of Isle Care, is one of the first groups in the country to receive the new method of training.
The Aged Care Channel will be an addition to the Group’s already extensive training scheme. Chief executive Andrew Larpent explained more than 240 employees were currently completing a formal apprenticeship.
The Aged Care Channel training has previously been used in Australia to provide information about health subjects, such as infection control, falls prevention and oral healthcare.
This wealth of knowledge is now to be passed on to this country.
Mr Larpent said: "The channel will be an excellent additional training tool, which will enable staff to ensure the care they give to the people who use our services is always of the highest quality."
Polars provides residential care for elderly people and adults with disabilities.
