AN ISLAND business has created six new jobs, thanks to an extensive £30,000 refurbishment.

The new and improved Booker Wholesale, in Cowes, was officially opened by Isle of Wight Council leader, Cllr David Pugh, at the end of May.

An open day for members of the business community, which included cookery demonstrations and tastings, was attended by Cowes mayor Cllr Geoff Banks and Rod Ainge, chairman of Cowes Business Association.

Bookers, which serves more than 2,000 Island businesses, now boasts improved lighting and flooring, as well as a better butchery service, a new fruit and vegetable section and larger departments for fresh and frozen foods.

General manager Marc Boylan said the new branch offered increased choice, lower prices and better service.
