COWES WEEKSUNSHINE and a 12-knot breeze from the north-west are just the sort of weather conditions racing sailors and the race committee at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week dream of.
Although the wind is forecast to build, possibly up to 19 knots, this afternoon, it is a significant improvement on yesterday’s blustery conditions, which forced the XOD and Solent Sunbeam classes to remain on shore.
Both the XODs and Sunbeams are on the water today and racing is well underway.
The starting sequence is currently running smoothly with classes such as the RS Elites enjoying some close, tactical racing as they cross the line. Aeolus sailed by Jono Brown and team took the best start but hot on their heels is RS Sailing.com who finished third yesterday.
The Quarter Tonners also enjoyed a good start with Panic, Espada and Phoenix battling it out of the line as they headed off towards East Bramble. Julian Money on Penny had a great start in the Solent Sunbeam class heading off to Quinnell, while in the Redwing fleet it was Fraser Morrison’s Skua who seemed to win the start.
