THE chance of a great televised head-to head clash was missed in the Reebok Challenge World Trials and National Inter-Counties at Nottingham on Saturday.

Hayley Yelling, the Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) athlete, had to pull out after spraining an ankle, meaning the eagerly awaited contest against her sister-in-law Liz Yelling, failed to materialise.

The head-to-head would have featured live on Sky Sports but Yelling will have to be content with a place in Britain's squad for the Worl Cross Country Championships.

In the inter-county competition on Saturday, Natalie Dover led the Buckingamshire effort, finishing in a creditable 80th in a time of 31 minutes and 32 seconds, smashing last year's time by more than five minutes.

Caroline and Leanne Fuller grabbed third and fourth spot in the Bucks Under 15 scoring team, while Lucy Scott, of WSEH, was a member of the Under 17 team which finished sixth overall.

Indoors, Nicole McDermott, of WSEH, broke the eight second barrier in the 60 metres in the final race before the National Indoor Championships.

At the Thames Valley Athletic Centre, McDermott was timed in a great 6.9 seconds.

Also hitting new marks were McDermott's Windsor team-mates and training partners Larry Joseph and Steve McDermott.
