The cheque presentation from last year’s event.
CRICKET CRICKET players with the power of endurance are needed for a charity 24-hour match next weekend.
The game, open to players of all ages and abilities, takes place at the IW Cricket Centre at Steephill, Ventnor, from next Saturday, March 23, through to the next day. All money raised from sponsorship will go to Comic Relief, and the initiative will — like last year’s successful batathon — be sponsored by Barclays, who will match the first £3,000 raised.
One of the organisers is IW performance manager, Elliot Wilson, who is determined to make a success of the venture before he leaves to join the coaching staff at Worcestershire next month.
He said: "All those taking part will be sponsored, and the match is between the IW Warriors and the North Islanders.
"It will start at noon on Saturday and end at noon the following day.
"Players can represent either side and we will be keeping a run tally to decide the eventual winners.
"We are confident the event will be supported by players from all age groups, county managers, coaches, parents and friends."
However, the search is now on for 20 players prepared to attend the event for the full 24 hours, to ensure there are sufficient players to keep the match going, especially throughout the night.
Anyone who can help for the duration, or who want to get involved just for a few hours, should call Elliot on 07800589101 or 01983 857763 to register, or by e-mailing batathoncricket@hotmail.co.uk
